[ Action - 1491 Kramden Rd ]

[It's really getting more difficult to climb out of bed after Mayfield's pulling shit like that. Again. Dying in the town offers no surcease, no escape from its horror. Hal continues out of spite, but it's certainly not easy.

The mail arrives promptly that morning. An envelope is addressed to him, its white folds betraying nothing of its contents. Tearing it open with his thumb, what looks to be a piece of cardstock about the size of a playing card falls out, falling face down onto the tile.]

Hm?

[A symbol rendered in black and yellow greets Hal when he picks the card up. Though similar in execution as the emblem of the Green Lantern Corps, this is unfamiliar to him. It seems somehow sinister...]

"DAD!" "DADDY!" "Youuuu'll be laaaate!"

[The explosive, jeering laughter of the drone kids come to him as they scurry into the kitchen, smiling their empty smiles. Hal looks back at the card...flips it around.

The symbol is gone.

He flicks the card onto the counter next to the envelope.]

Haven't got time for- hey! Those are my shoes!

[And it goes forgotten for now.]

[ Action - Mayfield High ]

[Aside from being late, nothing at all seems to have changed for everyone's favorite (and only) Astronomy teacher, but his smile might appear a little...forced. When the bell rings he's relieved, but turns as people gather their things.]

The due date for your papers has been pushed back to next Monday. And mark your calenders, two weeks from tonight on the thirteenth is the Geminid Meteor Shower. For those interested, there will be a watching party that night on the Point, I'll have more info closer to the day. Get some rest, guys.

[He waits for them to file out and takes a seat on his desk, rubbing at his temples. The day can't end fast enough.]

Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree,
If mankind perished utterly;
And Spring herself when she woke at dawn
Would scarcely know that we were gone.

[ Action - 1491 Kramden - Late morning ]

[Spending the extra time and money to reinforce the house during renovations had served the Jordan clan well. If anything, it meant that the occupants had a little less in the way of wreckage to scramble out of that morning, as the sun rose higher behind the dense cloud of yellow.

Hal shovels another pile of dirt from the shallow grave. He won't let his thoughts rest too heavily on just why the drones were flash-fried in their beds while the non-natives remained alive and, at least for now, well. The fact is they were, and the small corpses presented a biohazard that had to be dealt with. Immolation left a sour taste in his mouth, so the bodies were wrapped hastily in their bed linens and carried out into the charred yard.

One, two, like stones dropped into a pond. He works with all due haste.]

[ Action - Grocer's - Supply run ]

[Carrying a rucksack, Hal is nimbly working his way through the rubble, hunting for the shine of tin or the gleam of unbroken glass. It wouldn't be in anyone's favor to make a go at him- the smooth wooden knob of a baseball bat peeks from the bag on his back. He wrestles a moment with a heavy shelving unit, grabbing a nearby cinder block in gloved hands and shoving it in place. He shines his flashlight into the darkness beneath, his expression unreadable beneath the bandanna covering his mouth and nose.

And then, he shimmies down onto his belly and reaches in.]
